Kamil "Maciuś" Chomski - On the road to success - #selfevolution interview

October 16, 2020 | #selfevolution interviews

Maciuś in the SelfMaker Smart Solutions community is probably known to everyone. He is the leader with a capital "L". The only one to reach the third rank in the SSS marketing plan so far. He was also the first guest of the interviews conducted as part of the #selfevolution academy series. Now we meet him again to ask how, in retrospect, he looks at his growth, the path he has followed over the last few months. We will also talk about his current activities and plans.

Mateusz Jarzombek: Hi Maciek. We are very pleased to welcome you here again!

Kamil Chomski: Hello! I also feel honored by this invitation, thank you.

MJ: Well, it's been over six months since the last interview. Long time, especially in such a rapidly changing industry as ours. What's up? Has anything changed in these few months?

KC: It may sound surprising, but no. Although I have gained further ranks, I have already achieved some of what I planned, but the approach itself does not change. I continue to go in the direction I set out at the beginning, and more and more often I see that my actions are bringing the intended effect.

MJ: Has your perception of yourself changed somehow? Motivation?

KC: Hmm, that's a difficult question, because when starting a project there are always great emotions, joy and intense action. Unfortunately, in business, the effects do not come immediately, and people who do not understand it fall away quickly. It is very difficult to sell quality that is not just an empty promise of quick profit. You have to change your perspective because SelfMaker is a long-term investment. Even so, me and my team are still operating, despite all the adversities, so the question should not be "how do I see myself now" but where the market and the community will see me soon! This time has taught me, that if you want to achieve high goals, you have to take care of them personally and think long-term.

MJ: I see that you are a man of action and everything you say, you can proof in practice. After all, you are the only holder of the third rank so far. Was it difficult?

KC: Indeed, I became an ambassador, but I did not achieve it alone. There is a whole team of people who I work with. It is also their success. We achieved it with hundreds of hours spent talking, zooming, planning, discussing marketing activities, trips, recordings and getting to know the company from the inside. Of course, continuous learning is also the key. Was it difficult? It's a matter of perspective. For some it might seem like a challenge, for others it is a piece of cake. I am sure of one thing, getting an “ambassador” is still not the peak of our abilities!

MJ: Wow! It's good to have someone so motivated in our team, it shows your dedication and commitment. But I have the impression that this is not a coincidence. You are a Deaf person, you also represent the Deaf community, why do you think these people are so eager to participate in the life of SelfMaker? Why are they so strongly involved?

KC: Indeed, it is not a coincidence. The Deaf support SelfMaker, because for them it is not only a company, not only products. For them, it is a chance for a new and better life. Definitely more convenient, simpler, without communication barriers. You must know that going to a restaurant, cinema or any public place is a big challenge for us. The communication problem is huge. We are unable to communicate with the staff or waiters, and even if we succeed, mistakes and ambiguities often occur. Self-service vending machines solve this problem, for the Deaf it is a chance for better quality of daily activities.

MJ: And yet, despite these communication problems, you took a very big challenge on your shoulders. You became the captain of the #selfevolution mobile headquarters. Tell me more about the purpose of this trip.

KC: This trip can be described as pleasure & business, we combine promoting SelfMaker with having a good time, visiting different parts of Europe, relaxing, trying the local cuisine, getting to know people and culture. However, the main goal is education, spreading the idea of #selfevolution. We show our friends in other countries what tokenization is, what benefits it brings to companies and investors, and why SelfMaker is following this path.

(English subtitles available in the YouTube player)

MJ: You speak in the plural. Someone is traveling with you?

KC: This trip wouldn’t be possible without my business partner Tomasz Morawski, who is also the driver of our beautiful Lexus.

MJ: How does your tour look like? Do you have any special places you want to visit along the way?

KC: The route is planned in advance, but is constantly evolving. We try to visit all those who are interested in modern solutions and technology. At the moment, we already have many countries of Western Europe behind us, and soon we are going to India. The pandemic does a little verification of our plans, but we don't give up and remain optimistic.

MJ: Do you see any effects of your mission?

KC: Yes. This can be judged both by the attitude of the people we meet, who are actively interested in what we do, and by the growing traffic on the SelfMaker website and social media which is coming from the countries we visit.

MJ: Finally, I will ask you two more questions and I want you to answer briefly. Ok?

KC: Yes, I'm ready.

MJ: What is your greatest motivation?

KC: The awareness that I can do something more for the Deaf world, not just sit and complain.

MJ: The second question. What's your recipe for success?

KC: A magician never reveals his tricks <laugh>. You just have to surround yourself with people who believe in you and support you.

MJ: Perfect. This is what I meant. Thank you, Maciuś, for this conversation, I wish you further success and a happy and effective journey!

KC: Thank you too. And all those who want to follow our mission, please visit our social media profiles @MacN3twork and @morawski.selfmaker!
